Sherlock lived on for four seasons, which saw a variety of cases, tragedies, and lots of drama, and while the quality of the series began to decrease after Sherlock came back from the dead in season 3, it was a big success with critics and viewers. ![]() Among those is the BBC’s TV series Sherlock, created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, and which brought the detective and company to modern-day London. The success of Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories made way to a long list of adaptations to all types of media, and recent ones have reignited interest in the source material. ![]() The Great Detective went on to appear in a total of four novels and 56 short stories, and became one of the most popular and beloved characters in literature. Created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes made his debut in 1887 in the story A Study in Scarlet and quickly became quite popular, especially after the publishing of the short story “A Scandal in Bohemia” in 1891 on The Strand Magazine. The BBC’s Sherlock is full of Easter eggs, foreshadowing, and subtle teases, such as one in season 2 that hinted at one of season 4’s biggest twists: the identity of Redbeard.
